Search for Old Tweets and Facebook Updates with Social Searching

Have your ever wondered about a Facebook conversation or tweet you shared on Twitter, many months ago? I sometimes do wish I could look up old updates and tweets.

Searching for the link of a status update of mine or a friends from months ago is easier said than done. With Twitter, it does not even allow searching for tweet older than 2 weeks.

Social Searching is a service which allows users to search for old updates on Twitter and Facebook.

Features of Social Searching
Users need to authorize their Facebook or Twitter account with Social Searching, to enable search.
The Search is with done by a combination of your name or your friend’s name along with a search query to look up old updates and tweets.
Rahul Bansal, had once shared a nice update about the book “Art of War” on Twitter and I could easily look it up within seconds (image below).

If you want to look up old updates from your Twitter and Facebook friends then try out Social Searching. Do drop in your comments.

Use Multiple Search Engines Simultaneously [Searchr]

logo Use Multiple Search Engines Simultaneously [Searchr]

When I search for images for my blog posts in Google images, I might not find the desired image. Then, I will try searching on Flickr, if I can not find it there, then I would search in another image-based search engine and the hunt continues.
This consumes a lot of time and sometimes I wish there was a search engine which shows results from all the top search engines at one place, so we don’t need to switch between different search engines.
If you’re like me then Searchr might work like a charm for you as it does the same i.e. showing up results from the top search engines.
Six types of searches can be done on Searchr, they are Web, Images, Torrents, Videos, Files and Mp3 Downloads.
search5 thumb Use Multiple Search Engines Simultaneously [Searchr]

Searchr Features

  1. Web search: You can get search results from the top 7 search engines namely Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Ask, Wikipedia, Dogpile and Yippy. It misses Altavista which is better than Yippy
  2. Image search: All in all, there are seven image-based search engines, the major drawback here is that, it misses Flickr. Iconfinder is great addition as you can find icons of all types and sizes in it.
  3. Video search: The videos section is a bit buggy, as the YouTube video results doesn’t load up. Dailymotion and Metacafe could’ve been added instead of AOL videos.
  4. Torrent search: It lists the major Torrent search engines like isoHunt, BtJunkie etc.
  5. File search: Uses Google’s site: syntax to search for files in popular file hosts like Rapidshare, Hotfile, Megaupload etc.
So, have you tried Searchr? How is it? Drop in your opinions!

10 Ways to to Protect Yourself from Cell Phone Radiation

With the World Health Organization confirming the fears established earlier, that there is “a possible connection between cell phones and two type of brain tumors: gliomas and acoustic neuromas,” or in simple words: cancer, there is an increasing sense of panic among mobile users. However there are ways that you can protect yourselves from these effects.
The effects start showing on people who constantly use their mobile phones (on an average) for at least 30 minutes daily. So the main precaution you can take is to reduce your phone usage.

Just keep these tips in mind :

  • Reduce phone usage the most you can.
  • Use headphones or hands-free kits, as they keep you away from the radiation emitted by the phones. You could also use the speaker mode while calling.
  • If available use a land-line phone.
  • Text instead of calling.
  • Keep your calls short.
  • Strive for minimal usage in areas having low signal (1 bar) such as rural areas.
  • Don’t allow small children to use mobile phones, unless necessary. Radiation may penetrate deeper due to their skulls still being in a development stage.
  • Don’t cover the area, where the internal antenna is located within your phone (mostly in the middle-back part of your phone), with your hand. When you cover it, the phone emits more waves to find a proper signal. Refer to your phone manual to check the exact position of the internal antenna.
  • Use phones having low SAR (specific absorption rate.) This is a measure of how much Radio Frequency (RF) energy the body absorbs.
  • Use a 3G phone. There are reports that state that they emit lesser radio waves to the brain.
These are some of the tips you could follow, that will surely help you in the long run.
